THE CITY OF KNOWLEDGE ACADEMY – THE SECONDARY YEARS

The Secondary Years (11-12 Year Olds)

Imam al-Suyuti said, ‘Pour the love of the Qur’an into the hearts of your children before their hearts are corrupted by the dunya.” Sayyiduna ‘Ali said ‘Play with your child for 7 years and teach them adab for 7 years.’ Imam al-Ghazali also said the hearts of children are pure and clean mirrors – and they only reflect that which they are habituated upon. If their upbringing and their nurturing is righteous, they will grow to be righteous. If they are taught that which is vulgar, unnatural and bad then it will impact their lives, and their hearts will desist from knowing and accepting the truth. We believe in children enjoying the Madrassah experience as much as possible.

Every student should come through our doors energetic and looking forward to the fun-packed evening ahead – and they should leave having learnt something new which shall benefit them them in this world and the Next. We are of the opinion that knowledge should be taught in a highly quality manner which is carefully constructed, beautifully delivered and meticulously taught so that the pure receipents of this message are able to take on and grasp the teachings of the religion without feeling over-burdened and fatigued. The servant of the Prophet, Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik narrated that Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ said, “Facilitate ease for people and do not make things hard for them. Deliver glad-tidings to people and do not make them run away.”  Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, the great Companion and teacher of the Qur’an said, “Out of his consideration for us, the Prophet ﷺ would teach us at prescribed and suitable times out of fear that we may become bored.”

Headteacher & Resident Scholar

Shaykh Mohammed Aslam is from among the most popular and respected Muslim scholars in Europe. In a time of mass confusion where people have lost direction, darkness has spread, and despair has overcome society, he has worked tirelessly to reconnect the hearts of this Ummah back to the beautiful Prophet of this Ummah through instilling hope, reverence, love, and honour for this religion into the souls of thousands of Muslims from various backgrounds across the world.  Born and raised in Birmingham, UK, Shaykh Aslam descends from a learned and righteous family. He began studying the religion from a young age at Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif and was honoured to have memorised the Qur’an in his teens. After benefitting from Mufti Akbar Zirak and some of the most talented scholars in Britain, he decided to embark on a path of seeking Sacred Knowledge.

He ultimately traveled to the blessed lands of Shaam where he enrolled in Damascus University and immersed himself in extensive private studies with some of the greatest scholars of our age. After graduating from Damascus University, he enrolled in Mahad al-Fath al-Islami, one of the most distinguished and illustrious Islamic seminaries in the world, from where he graduated after six years of full-time study. Between 1999 – 2006, Shaykh Mohammed Aslam was blessed to have sat in the blessed company of hundreds of renowned ‘ulema and sages such as Shaykh ‘Abd al-Razzaq al-Halabi, Shaykh Muhammad Adib al-Kallas, Shaykh ‘Abdullah Sirajuddin, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Shaghouri, Shaykh Mustafa Turkmani, Shaykh Shukri al-Luhafi, Shaykh Abul Hasan al-Kurdi, Shaykh Muhammad ‘Aywad, Shaykh Muhammad Sa’id Ramadan al-Buti, Shaykh Salih al-Hamawi, Sayyid Muhammad ibn ‘Alawi al-Makki, Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyya al-Bukhari, Shaykh Ahmad al-Habbal, Shaykh Salim Hammami, and many others.

He was highly praised by many scholars residing in the Levant for his exceptional dedication to knowledge and his love for the Sunna. After returning to the UK, he quickly became renowned in Birmingham for his brilliant youth work, his outstanding gift in making the religion relevant to the generality of the Muslim Umma, his creativity and forward-thinking, and his strength in calling to Allah (Da’wah). His efforts and hard work saw countless young people from disfranchised backgrounds passionately flocking to the Houses of Allah.

The Intention of Study

This Intention of Imam Abdullah ibn ‘Alawi al-Haddad

I intend to study and teach, take and give a reminder, take and give benefit, take and give advantage, to encourage the holding fast to the book of God and the way of His Messenger, and calling to guidance and directing towards good, hoping for the countenance of God and His pleasure, proximity and reward, transcendent is He.
